Runesoul Animated Short Film Background Work
Runesoul is the name of a short animated film created by a good friend of mine who is also a recent CMU graduate. They were making great strides with designing the characters and the story, but needed an extra set of hands when it came to making the backgrounds. They passed along their files as a guide and I got to work.
Reading Between the Lines
When working on someone else's project, I wanted to be sure to make something that matched the other parts that were already completed. I took a look at the character turnaround sheets, storyboards, and building sketches. I was able to successfully look at the art style and match it within the assets that I created.
Gaining Perspective and Applying It
Approaching this project was really difficult for me. I'd never drawn buildings or interior spaces before, so it was intimidating at the start. To beat that intimidation, I researched and looked at many reference photos to capture the angle I was going for.
